Moab, Utah with Kids

Here are some ideas of kids things to do in Moab. I also have info for Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.

Mill Creek Swimming Hole

One of our favorite things to do is hike to this swimming hole. It can get crowded so go early or on an off day if you can. Also partiers come in the early afternoon. More details here and here.

Morning Glory (aka: Negro Bill Canyon – renamed Grandstaff Canyon)

The 2 mile trail follows a creek with various creek crossings and plenty of shade. At the end is the Morning Glory Bridge spanning of 243 feet. Do be aware of the poison ivy along particular sections of the trail and by Morning Glory Bridge. Takes about 4 hours. More info here and here.

4x4 Razor trails

We usually rent from High Point Hummer. They also do hummer tours. They can recommend the best trials but we love these.

  • Finns and things

  • Hells revenge

  • Gemini bridges

  • Hoo raw pass and chicken corner

  • Behind the rocks

  • Potash road to Thelma and Louise point

  • Shafer road switchbacks

  • Grand staff canyon trail

Rotary Park 680 Millcreek Dr.

Five minutes from downtown Moab, shaded grassy area, bike trail, volleyball, playground and music park. Industrial materials have been shaped into eclectic musical instruments. More info here.

Moab Backyard Theater

Magic shows, jazz and bluegrass music, and Western movie nights! View the schedule.

River rafting

Daily rafting trips are available from March through October for ages 6+. We love using the Moab Adventure Center, a division of Western River Expeditions.

Moab Giants - Dianosaur park

They have a loop of recreated life-size dinosaurs, you can dig for bones, watch a movie and play on their playground. Fairly pricey.

Dinosaur Tracks

  • Mill Canyon Dinosaur Trail, contains traces (vertebrae, bone fragments and impressions) of a variety of dinosaur species. Visitors can also view the remnants of an old copper mill and the Halfway Stage Station, a rest stop for travelers during the turn of the century as they traveled from the railroad at Thompson to Moab. Click here to download a brochure.

  • The Copper Ridge Sauropod Tracksite discovered in 1989, reveals the first brontosaurus trackway reported from Utah, as well as trackways of four theropods of various sizes. The dinosaurs walked in several directions across a ripple-marked sand deposit that had accumulated in an ancient river channel. Click here to download a brochure.

Moab Golf

Moab also has a great golf course for kids. Pretty easy and reasonable and not too crowded.

Mountain Biking with Kids

  • Bar M Loop - is a fairly easy ride technically. Elevation change is modest at about 300 feet. Many families ride this trail, including baby trailers and trail-a-bikes.

  • Intrepid Trail – With slickrock sections, looping singletrack, sandy washes, and incredible scenery, the Intrepid Trail System provides a great taste of what Moab mountain biking is all about. This is the perfect ride for families and offers spectacular views of the Colorado River and Canyonlands National Park.

  • Other Bike Trails – For more family fun biking, contact one of Moab’s fine tour operators for one of the following tours or to have a them customize a bike tour for your family.

Fishers Towers - cool, but not an amazing end point http://www.discovermoab.com/pdf/fishertowers.pdf
